Schools Reopening Might Be Dangerous During The Powerful Pandemic

People social distancing

There have been a lot of debates about schools reopening for the upcoming school year. A lot of people have different opinions on this topic, but some of them do not know what they are truly talking about. Even people from the healthcare industry have spoken about this. There are very significant points on both sides of the argument and we are gonna take a look at some of them and see which one might be better overall.

Schools Reopening Options

Option 1

What would happen if schools open back up? There would be big groups of people gathering for sure. Which of course is not good when we are trying to fight a pandemic. If one person gets infected, a lot more people have a chance of getting infected as well.

And not to mention the fact that if there’s even one child infected with the Coronavirus, the whole school will most likely have to shut down for at least 14 days. And then this cycle might repeat over and over again. The main question is: “Are students responsible enough to follow the guidelines?”

Many people believe that students will not be able to follow the social guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus. It’s easy to understand why. Many of them are still very young and they may not have a good enough of awareness to protect themselves and those around them.

Social Distancing

That’s something that the parents will have to teach their kids as well. They need to be well educated about the virus and to understand ways of preventing the spread of it.

What about the teachers? First of all, one of the things that is going to be expected from them would be to control the environment in the classroom and outside of the classroom. They will be expected to guide children and show them how to be responsible.

Parents often say this as an argument to schools reopening: “The teachers will control them” The truth is that teachers cannot fully control everything students do. As much as we want them to do that, it is not possible. At the end of the day, they are getting paid just to teach. Even though their job is one of the most important in the world. Teachers will be looked at as miracle workers and somehow be able to keep children safe from the Coronavirus.

One thing that got me thinking is that there isn’t really a way to practice social distancing at school. How would you do that when there are around 30 people in a room. What about the buses and playgrounds? And not to mention what will be happening when they are in the hallways during the breaks. Also, the cleanliness in schools is questionable. Especially around the bathrooms. Schools need to make sure that there are enough hand sanitizers and other cleaning materials.

Option 2

What would happen if schools don’t open back up? There are a few positives and a few negatives, just like everything in life. What are some of the benefits? The first one would be that there won’t be any people getting infected from school.

Second, would be that many students will have better grades (at least in my experience). It will also be easier for everyone. There’s no going to school every day and it’s a lot more stress-free compared to the other option.

When they closed the schools a couple of months ago everyone had to adapt to a new way of living. And that’s not different when it comes to education. Many teachers had to adapt to using technologies and different programs to host their classes online. And I can say that a lot of people had a positive experience with that change.

Pretty much everything was getting done digitally without any major difficulties both by teachers and students. My point is that it will be a lot more convenient to go back to school the digital way. There won’t be any learning curve like the last time this happened.

I think that the following point is very underrated by everyone. And it’s mental health. There’s no denying that nowadays we suffer a lot with those kinds of problems. And it also happens to students due to the environment and the stress we talked about earlier.

Why Are Schools Reopening?

In my humble opinion, I believe that the second option is the better one. I might be a little biased, but this comes from personal experience. Before all that digital education, I wasn’t having the best time in school due to many reasons. I found it much better to study from home and have more time and energy to focus on the things that really matter to me.

The things that I were passionate about and the fact that I could spend more time with my family and close friends. At the end of the day, school is just another way to get an education. Both sides of the argument have their valid points but at the end of the day, we cannot really do much. It’s about the government of each state that’s going to decide on schools reopening or not.

We can be debating all day about what the best option is but ultimately it’s the governments response to the pandemic that will matter. We can only hope that they can make the best decision possible for our kids and the teachers that develop the future generation. As long as we take care of ourselves and others around us, everything will be ok.

Conclusion

It is a very problematic time in history due to this pandemic and all the issues that it has caused. Even worse, the cause of ill health and death in people and loved ones around the world. There are scientific guidelines for everyone to follow so we can help diminish the existence of the Coronavirus in our communities. We should all do our part in helping each other fight this battle. Most of all be kind during these trying times.
